It's Mis-Management Says Brown

There was a short item about the financial situation at Hereford United on BT Sport last night which included film shot last Saturday at Edgar Street. Viewers were reminded that five years ago Hereford were in League One.

After the item went out Phil Brown, manager of Southend, was asked to comment.

"It's mis-management, bottom line" said Brown.

"You've got to pay your tax.

"The taxman is the one that winds the smaller club up."

Director Colin Addison and HUISA's Dave White spoke during the film.

"Relegation was a big blow to us, not only on the pitch but off the pitch financially" said Addison.

Crowds have halved recently.

"If we could get 2,300 every week we wouldn't be in this situation," said White.

"It won't put everything right paying the taxman but it will give that little bit of hope and that little bit of time to restructure the club," said Addison.

Mention was made of Wayne Rooney's weekly pay said to be £300K. That amount would cover Hereford's current problem.

"£300K a week for a player, that's what we need to stay in existence," said White.

"Football in general has to take a look at itself.

"The money is not filtering through.

"Grassroots football is struggling".
