Chester are on 40 points after conceding a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Southport, who are now on 41 points. Tamworth lost 4-2 at Alfreton to see their gap to safety increase to eight points.
At the top, Cambridge beat Welling 2-1 to cut Luton's lead to 11 with both sides having played the same number of matches. Alfreton are third, with non-playing Nuneaton fourth. Kidderminster's draw is enough to move them into the play-offs with Forest Green a point behind after a 2-1 win over Grimsby. Barnet also slip off the pace slightly after a 2-0 loss at Macclesfield. Lincoln are up to 12th after a 2-0 win at Braintree.
In League Two, Torquay beat Bury 2-1 to cut their margin to 22nd to five points. Northampton are only two points better off after a 3-0 home loss to Rochdale, while Accrington surged clear of the bottom two after a 5-1 home win over Morecambe.
