Club historian Ron Parrott has been informed that former Bull Rex Adams has died, aged 85.
Rex was an outside-right who started out with his local amateur side Oxford City in 1944. He didn’t appear the following season but during 1946/47, he was a regular in their first team on the right wing or at inside right.
He joined Hereford in the summer of 1947 but sadly was driven out of the club by a small group of so-called “supporters” who chose to barrack him at every opportunity. He moved on to Blackpool as a 20-year- old in 1947/48, having made just 12 appearances for United and he went on to make 16 Football League appearances for the Tangerines, scoring just one goal.
As understudy to Stanley Matthews, his first-team opportunities were limited and he was mainly confined to the Reserves. He later linked up with Worcester City before moving back into the Football League with Oldham Athletic in 1953, where he played 23 more League games, scoring just once. He played for four more seasons in the Cheshire league for both Mossley and Northwich Victoria before injury sadly forced an early retirement from the game at the age of 28.
