BN looks back to 1977 when Wealdstone knocked Hereford United out of the FA Cup. The Bulls had drawn the first game 0-0, but three days later on November 29th they lost the replay 3-2.
HEREFORD United were today rocked by a call for the sacking of
manager John Sillet and the resignation of club chairman Frank Miles.
This follows last night's shock defeat at the hands of Southern League club Wealdstone who became the first non-league side for 31 years to win an F.A. Cup-tie at Edgar Street
The demand for changes came from the club's Supporters Action Group, who were formed towards end of last season when Hereford were relegated.
Action Group chairman Jack Morris said last night's defeat was "the last straw as far as many of the supporters were concerned," adding: "After the game approaches were made to members of my committee by angry fans and we deemed it necessary to call an immediate emergency meeting of the Group."
A letter from the group to Mr Miles today said: "The large demonstration, both inside and outside the ground, is proof to you and your board that any Action Group are speaking for the majority of supporters when we say the fiasco must end here and now."
The letter called for Sillett's sacking and Miles' resignation, adding: "It is the widely felt opinion of the supporters that this action is necessary as the first step towards checking the decline of the club towards the Fourth Division."
Mr. Morris said: "Our intention is to help resurrect Hereford United. This is all we want to see happen."
Sillett described last night's 3-2 defeat as the biggest disappointment of his career, saying: "I thought relegation was bad enough, but it was nowhere near as painful as this."
The man behind Wealdstone's giant killing act is Birmingham born Alan Fogarty. He said "The result was no fluke. It was the reward for hard work by the players and everyone with the club this year."
