Sillett Ponders Quitting Coventry Role

Former two-time Bulls manager John Sillett says he is considering quitting his role as Life President at Coventry City over their stadium dispute.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, the 76 year old was asked if he would consider his position if the club relocated: “I have to be truthful, I would. Sky Blue blood is in my veins and like the rest of the supporters I’m sitting here scratching my head wondering what on earth have they done?

“I read the other day that one in five of people are living below the breadline and they’re asking supporters to travel to Northampton and back to watch their team play.

"It amazes me and I just hope the football club are not committing suicide.

“Football is a religion to the fans. They go to work and spend their wages to go through the turnstiles. Come on, let’s play the game and give the supporters something to smile about.”

Sillett also told the paper he had not been asked to contribute to discussions: “I thought I should and could have been asked to get involved and I haven’t been, to possibly go and represent the club with different things. The only thing I seem to be asked to do is funerals.

“I’d love to be involved and say, ‘come on, who is it that is not budging on this deal,’ because there has to be give and take. It goes a long way back and whoever did a deal for that stadium didn’t do a good deal for this football club. To think that they don’t own anything and get any revenue from it..."

Asked if he would follow the club to Northampton, he added: “Would I go to Northampton? I am not 100 per cent behind it but I am 100 per cent behind Coventry City and that’s giving me a massive headache.”

The paper reveals this morning that the CVA proposal on offer is to pay 25.95p/£ of debts. Stadium owners ACL are reported to be owed just over £2million, with prospective club owners Otium paying £1.5million for the club's title and assets - minus the lease on the Ricoh Arena.
