Stockport have announced that Vice Chairman Spencer Fearn has left the club with immediate effect. A club statement says that Fearn had put £365,000 into the club since arriving 16 months ago, and owned 20% of the club.
Barrow say they want to double club membership to 1,000 in a bid to cover their urgent bills. A rise from the current 500 would put £10,000 into the coffers with the club looking to raise £30,000 quickly. Membership renewals are usually due in August, but the club are asking existing members to renew now.
Ebbsfleet say donations to save the club are drying up with the club still owing £20,000 to the taxman. They transferred a further £2,600 to HMRC this week, while former Charlton chief executive Peter Varney is reported to be eyeing up the club as a possible investment. Varney, who left Charlton last summer, is fronting a Kuwaiti investment firm's entry into Sport. He told the local press:
“Whether they (KEH) invest with somebody who already owns a club or they go alone, they want to build a club.
“I gave a presentation on football finances and I didn’t think anything more of it until I was approached by people who are looking to get involved in football. They asked if I would represent them and we had discussions. They went on to set up a sports subsidiary.
“It’s flattering to be approached to do something like this because a lot of people could do this sort of role.”
Worcester manager Carl Heeley says he cannot open contract talks with his players due to the club's uncertain future. The club have set a deadline of Friday to double the 340 season tickets sold by Saturday.
