Barrow Issue Cash Call

Barrow are the latest Conference side to issue a cash plea to fans.

At a meeting of club members on Friday night, those present were told the club had a need for £30,000 to cover immediate debts that included the wage bill and tax liabilities. The board did not give a figure of the club's actual debt level, but did tell fans that board members were owed £250,000 and that the full picture would be revealed at their AGM in June.

Director Tony Keen told the meeting: “We are not big enough as a club and as a business to thrive at that level. You have to write off £2m to £2.5m a year to sustain Conference football and we simply cannot do that. We need a reality check. It’s fantasy to think we are a big non-league club."

Keen told fans that they would budget for Conf North on gates of 750, having averaged 924 this season, cutting the playing budget by 40% for the coming season.
