Conference chairmen meet on Monday for their mid-season meeting, with Chairman Brian Lee not ruling out the suggestion that Scottish Third Division side Rangers may join the tier.
Rangers' chairman Charles Green branded the English fifth tier as being better than Scottish football in quotes earlier in the week as he objected to planned reforms to the Scottish league structure. Conference chairman Brian Lee told Talksport that it was up to clubs to decide whether they would accept the Old Firm side:
“It would be wrong if the Football League would not take Rangers as part of the promotion and relegation system. Otherwise they would be in the Conference keeping out a team who might have the wherewithal to go higher in the pyramid.
“But they are not insurmountable problems. You will have to have the co-operation of a lot of different organisations to make it possible, but where there is a will there is a way.”
The radio station also polled 14 Conference sides for their views on a move. Eight of the sides said they would support a move, with only three saying no. The Bulls were not asked.
