Cox Dampens Purkiss Interest

Mansfield boss Paul Cox has confirmed an interest in out of contract Bulls defender Ben Purkiss.

With the Stags accepting a bid from Burnley for full back Luke O'Neill, Cox has turned his attention to filling the right back role with the funds from O'Neill's sale added to his warchest.

The Non-League Paper claimed at the weekend that Purkiss was Cox's main target, a fact the manager disputes. Cox told the Stags' official site: "We spoke to Ben's representatives but we've spoken to 50 right backs. You can only believe so much you read in the press."

Meanwhile, former Bulls midfielder Graham Hyde has been appointed as Boston United's new Assistant Manager, with the former Birmingham man targeting promotion from Conf North. The 41 year old was manager at Redditch last season but left the club after securing their league status.
