News Round-Up

Macclesfield have had a request to talk to Southport boss Liam Watson about their managerial vacancy rejected by the manager. The 41 year old took the part-time Sandgrounders to within five points of the Conference play-offs this season and has a track record of working on a budget. Burton caretaker boss Gary Rowett says he will leave discussions over deals for six players, including Tony James, until the club appoint a permanent manager.

Morecambe have released four players, with long serving Garry Hunter the highest profile. The 27 year old debuted for the club nine years ago, making over 300 appearances. Chesterfield have released ten players following their relegation to League Two. The ten include the club's longest serving player, Derek Niven, who has spent the last nine years with the Spireites and scored the last goal at Saltergate.

Darlington fans are investigating the possibility of resurrecting their former Feethams ground. The site was sold for housing but never built on, and some parts of the old stadium still exist on the site. Scunthorpe have released ten of the eleven players out of contract at Glanford Park. Only striker Bobby Grant has been given a new one year deal.

Bury have released five players including former Bradford loanee Andy Haworth. None of the five played more than ten games for the Shakers in the past season. Wrexham's Supporters Trust, the club's owner, says it aims to raise £300,000 through a Community Share issue so it can cover predicted losses for next season. The club is estimated to lose £400,000 next season on current budgets, but a WST spokesman told the press it was 'not a meltdown situation'.

Wycombe have released six players including former Bulls target Ben Strevens. The 31 year old scored only 12 times in 84 games for the Chairboys after originally catching the eye with Dagenham. Wrexham boss Andy Morrell expects several of his squad to leave during the summer for League sides. Defender Nat Knight-Percival has already agreed a deal to join Peterboro.

Macclesfield have named former Bulls keeper Jose Veiga as their Player of the Year. The Cape Verde international, 35, has played 100 times for the Silkmen since arriving at the club three years ago. The Silkmen are to close their Centre of Excellence following their relegation from the Football League. The move comes as part of the cost cutting at Moss Rose following the drop.
