News Round-Up

Darlington took over 1,000 to their 'final' match with Barrow, with the Barrow fans offering a fitting tribute (here) after suffering their own problems under Stephen Vaughan. The two stadium owners have offered to inject £50,000 into the club to keep it going in the short term, but only if the Supporters Trust match the sum. Fans are sceptical over their motives, fearing the move is an attempt to hamper any efforts to start a new club in a different ground by reducing the Trust's finances. The local council have offered to relax the covenant covering the stadium providing it benefits the club and the local community.

Preston have confirmed that they have approached Stevenage for manager Graham Westley. Crawley boss Steve Evans says he turned down a cash offer for striker Matt Tubbs. He says the £50,000 striker was a bargain, and he had no hesitation in turning down the bid from an unnamed club. Wimbledon have signed midfielder George Moncur on loan for an initial month. The West Ham youngster, 18, is the son of John Moncur.

Gillingham striker Danny Kedwell is expected to miss up to a month after fracturing a rib during their FA Cup match with Stoke. Boss Andy Hessenthaler is still hoping to finalise a deal for Bristol Rovers striker Jo Kuffour, but is awaiting news on their new manager to complete a move. Former Bulls striker Mark Beesley has left hometown club Burscough and joined Hednesford Town in the same division.

Another former Bull is on the move. Chesterfield-born striker Craig King has joined Worksop Town after leaving Telford last week. Shrewsbury have lost the services of loanee James Wallace after the Everton midfielder opted to seek out interest in him at a higher level. Yeovil have confirmed that Gary Johnson has returned to the club as manager, with existing manager Terry Skiverton dropping down a step to act as his assistant.
