News Round-Up

Darlington fans have raised over £1,000 overnight to help the players' expenses. The Northern Echo has also paid for the team coach for them to get to Barrow on Saturday after the Administrator told caretaker boss Craig Liddle he would have to drive a minibus to the game. Their debt situation has eased slightly after former manager Mark Cooper took the manager's job at Kettering, ending his claim to wages from the club from now until the end of the season, after Mark Stimson quit the ailing side.

Southend have signed Derby winger David Martin on an 18 month deal. The 26 year old, who was once a target of the Bulls back in the Conference days, spent a month at Walsall earlier in the season. Bradford have failed in an appeal against midfielder Dave Syers' red card received in the game with Shrewsbury. He will now serve a three match ban. The Bantams have allowed defender Steve Williams to join Inverness on trial.

Bristol Rovers say they will appoint a new manager in '7-10 days', meaning they may not have a new face in charge when they visit the Bulls next Tuesday. Plymouth have signed former Bulls striker Nick Chadwick on a permanent deal from Stockport. The 29 year old has signed an 18 month deal after scoring three times in six League appearances for the Pilgrims.

Crawley are reported to have expressed an interest in taking misfit Southend man Bilel Moshni off their hands. A Southend club source has told the local press that the Shrimpers want a six-figure fee for the versatile, but volatile, player who has not featured since his last red card. Burton have signed West Ham youngster Callum Driver on loan for a month after first choice target Joe Edwards, of Bristol City, picked up an injury in training. Driver, 19, signed his first pro deal at the start of the season.

Northampton want to extend the loan of defender Kelvin Langmead to the end of the season. Boss Aidy Boothroyd believes the 26 year old can anchor his side after forming a strong partnership with Ben Tozer in recent weeks. Port Vale chief executive Perry Deakin needed a Police escort to leave Vale Park after fans were tipped off that he was back in work for the first time yesterday. A club statement now claims that Deakin will work a five month notice period, after it was originally stated to be only three months.

Grimsby forward Anthony Elding is being investigated by Police for allegedly making an obscene gesture towards Lincoln fans during their derby match on Boxing Day. Barnet's ex-Bulls winger Mark Marshall will leave the club in the summer on a free if he doesn't tie up a January move, his agent has told Sky Sports. The 24 year old is claimed to be interesting West Ham, Portsmouth, and Leeds after the Bees turned down bids from Charlton and Bournemouth in August.

New Kettering boss Mark Cooper says the club is to have new investment into it within the next week or two. The Poppies have recalled two players from their loans are Mansfield - which were to be made into permanent January deals - and Cooper expects to be able to sign new players in the next week. Crawley are reported to have made a £100,000 offer for Rotherham striker Lewis Grabban. The former Brentford man has scored 15 goals so far this term.

Former Bulls loanee Marlon Jackson has joined Telford on loan for an initial month. The Bristol City forward has just finished an unsuccessful month at Cheltenham where he made only one sub appearance. Shrewsbury midfielder Nicky Wroe has not broken bones in his foot as previously diagnosed. The injury is merely bad bruising and he should be back several weeks earlier than expected.

Wimbledon boss Terry Brown has transfer listed five of his squad. The Wombles have gone twelve games without a win, prompting Brown to list defender Ryan Jackson, striker Charles Ademeno, and midfielders James Mulley, Max Porter, and Lee Minshull. Most are bit part players this term with Minshull the most used, having played in 18 of their 24 League games. Port Vale expect to have only 13 fit first team players for this weekend's game at Southend after losing the services of all five of their loan players, as well as having seven others injured.

Plymouth have signed defender Darren Purse on a deal until the end of the season after he was released by Millwall. The 33 year old, who also had spent time at Yeovil this season, has just completed the three match ban he received for scything down Nathan Elder last month.
