News Round-Up

Bradford have failed in a bid for veteran Rochdale captain Gary Jones. The 34 year old was offered a two year deal by the Bantams, but their move failed after Rochdale matched it. Rotherham midfielder Nicky Law is reported to be on the verge of a move to Motherwell in the SPL. The move would mean the out of contract 23 year old would leave on a free. The Millers have accepted one offer for the player from Crawley, while Scunthorpe have cancelled their interest due to personal terms.

Accrington winger Jimmy Ryan is set for a move to Scunthorpe after talks this week. Ryan, 22, is out of contract with Stanley and would require a fee to be agreed. Grimsby say they have rejected a 'derisory' offer for ex-Bulls striker Alan Connell from an unnamed club. The Mariners have signed forward Damian Spencer on a one year deal. Rotherham report that they have had no interest in transfer listed pair Tom Pope and Mark Bradley.

Rochdale have signed in-demand striker Ashley Grimes. The 24 year old worked with new Spotland boss Steve Ayre as a Man City trainee. Walsall boss Dean Smith has named former Grimsby manager Neil Woods as head of youth at the Saddlers. AFC Wimbledon have rejected an offer from Bournemouth for midfielder Steven Gregory. The offer was said to be 'way below' the Wombles valuation.

Macclesfield have signed defender Jonathan Bateson following his release by Accrington. The former Blackburn trainee played only 12 times for Stanley last term before being sent out on loan to Altrincham. Plymouth are claimed to have sacked midfielder Kari Arnason after he refused to defer his wages for June. The club claim he was given a free transfer to seek a move back to his native Iceland.

Kettering have named Morrell Maison as their new manager to replace the departed Marcus Law. Their fans are threatening to start up their own club in the wake of moves to take the club to Rushden's ground. Their Supporters Trust has voted in favour of starting a new club rather than following the Poppies at Nene Park. Rotherham have agreed a new contract with midfielder Jason Taylor. He was claimed to be a Bulls target by Sky Sports earlier in June.

Torquay have confirmed the signing of former loanee Joe Oastler after his release by QPR. The 20 year old midfielder played 23 times for the Gulls last term. AFC Wimbledon have signed defender Mat Mitchel-King following his release from Crewe. The former Histon central defender played 51 games in two years for the Railwaymen.
