Below are a few paragraphs about Delroy Facey who has joined Hereford United on a one year deal.
One thing is certain about Facey, whilst he may never play for as many clubs as former Bull Trevor Benjamin, he certainly is a journeyman. Born in 1980, Facey started his footballing career with the youth set-up at Huddersfield. He was offered his first professional contract in May 1997.
After six years he moved to Bolton Wanderers and a succesion of clubs followed including Bradford City, Burnley, West Bromwich Albion, Hull City, Oldham Athletic, Tranmere Rovers, Rotherham United, Gillingham, Wycombe Wanderers, Notts County and Lincoln City.
After being released by Notts County in May 2010, along with Russell Hoult who is now Jamie Pitman's right hand man, Facey signed a deal with Lincoln City and on November 20th scored one of the goals in their 3-1 victory over the Bulls. However after making 21 appearances for the Imps, he dislocated his shoulder in March and the injury kept him out for the rest of the season.
The injury hit Lincoln especially hard as Facey was at the time club captain and was reported to have been an inspiration to the team.
He had been made captain on January 15 for a match against his former club Wycombe. Lincoln lost that match, after which they were bottom of the League Two table. Facey kept the captaincy though and Lincoln went on to win eight of their next fifteen matches, leading them up to fourteenth in the table.
One of those games was at Edgar Street on February 5th when Facey scored the only goal of the game.
After dislocating his shoulder in the dying minutes of a draw against Macclesfield on March 15th, he missed the rest of the season. Maybe as a consequence, Lincoln's form then dropped and they only gained one point from their remaining ten fixtures. The Imps were relegated on the last day of the season and Facey was not offered a new contract.
Whilst he only scored four goals last season for Lincoln, two of them against the Bulls, he did appear to work well with on loan Ashley Grimes who certainly knew how to find the back of the net.
And so to Edgar Street where it is hoped he can form a working partnership with last season's top scorer Stuart Fleetwood.
"Good to see we've signed Delroy Facey!," noted Fleets. "Bullied us last season and will be a good addition to the squad."
