Former Bull Tony James is one of seven Burton players to be offered a new deal.
With a return to Edgar Street a seeming inevitability at the turn of the year with the former West Brom trainee a sidelined figure at the Pirelli Stadium, James has forced his way back into the side in recent weeks to help them to League Two safety.
One ex-Bull definitely on his way out is winger Lewis Young, who has not been offered a new deal after a season long stay with the Brewers. The former Watford trainee started 11 games, and made 11 sub appearances for Paul Peschisolido's men. He is one of six released in total, with seven offered new deals.
Meanwhile Northampton boss Gary Johnson has told ex-Bull Dean Beckwith to prove he wants to stay with the club. Johnson released his retained list today with Beckwith one of three players given time to consider their futures. Johnson told the club's official site:
"Dean lives away from the area and I don't really want him driving up from Gillingham every day because I think it affects him so we are talking about the possibility of him moving up here. I want them to give me an answer quickly and I have given all three of them until Friday to make their decision and then we can think about any offers."
Fellow ex-Bull Guillem Bauza is one of five to be offered a new deal, although he only has until Friday to accept it, while eight have been released. Among those axed is injury hit striker Leon Mackenzie, who scored a hat-trick against the Bulls in the 4-3 win at Sixfields, and attacking midfielder Ryan Gilligan.
Assistant manager Malcolm Crosby is to also leave the Cobblers.
