Preview: Barnet vs Bulls

The Bulls travel to Barnet on Saturday for a 'relegation six-pointer' that is coming far too early in the season.

The two sides have been paired together in seven of the last nine seasons. Overall, Barnet have managed just six wins in 26 games with the Bulls winning 13. Last season the Bulls drew 0-0 at Underhill before winning the return at Edgar Street 2-1 with James McQuilkin scoring the opener before both Richard Rose and Gary Breen put through their own nets.

The current Barnet side features four ex-Bulls. Anwar Uddin, Darren Dennehy, Mark Marshall, and Glen Southam all had short spells at Edgar Street to varying degrees of success. But for Dennehy's injury all four would line up on Saturday as regulars for the Bees. Top scorer Phil Walsh, on loan from Dagenham, has three goals in six games with Marshall and Steve Kabba having two each. Handed the fairly common pre-season relegation tag they have not disappointed so far thanks to a defensive record that reads an average of 2.5 goals a game conceded all season.

The Bulls go to Underhill having scored in their last three games and, finally, having scored a goal from open play. That is a huge leap on the preview to the last away trip when the Bulls had to seek a goal to end a lengthy drought. With Simon Davey turning 40 on Friday he will be hoping for some belated presents from the Barnet defence along the lines of those handed to Stevenage on Tuesday.

Barnet vs Hereford United, Underhill, Saturday 2nd October, 3.00pm.
