Former Hereford United manager Graham Turner has spoken about Adam Stansfield to the Express and Echo. Turner, now with Shrewsbury, heard the news after their Carling Cup match last Tuesday.
"We came back from 3-0 down against Charlton on Tuesday to win 4-3 — a magnificent game and a magnificent performance from us, but I got the phone call about Adam on the way home which put everything in perspective. We knew him as a family man and it is an absolute tragedy, particularly for his wife and his three small lads.
"Everyone at Hereford, and even the staff here who worked with me at Hereford, were devastated by the news.
"He came into professional football a bit later than most and he always gave me the impression of being a kid in a toy shop.
"When he was released by Yeovil it didn't take much thinking about — we wanted him to sign for us.
"He loved the game, in training he always had a smile on his face. I can genuinely say he was one of the most pleasant players I have worked with and it was that enthusiasm for the game which seemed to rub off on those around him.
"Adam could score, he did very well for us for a period and he always worked tremendously hard during the matches.
"He wasn't physically the strongest but he was as brave as a lion."
