McClenahan gets deal at Scunthorpe

Former Hereford United defender Trent McClenahan has signed for Scunthorpe until January.

The Australian featured in last week's Lincolnshire Senior Cup final against Grimsby and was on the bench for Tuesday's Carling Cup win over Oldham.

Now 25, McClenahan signed for Hereford United in August 2006 and spent two seasons with the Bulls.

Meanwhile, ahead of their visit to Edgar Street on Saturday, Gillingham have signed veteran defender Matt Lawrence who was recently released by Crystal Palace.

"Given our current injury problems, we needed to bring someone in who can organise the defence," said Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler.

The Gills will also be without young midfielder Jack Payne who picked up a knock at Norwich on Tuesday night.

"We’ve lost Jack Payne from the other night," said Hessenthaler. "He won’t be fit as he has a nasty dead leg and he won’t be able to shake that off."

Finally on Saturday August 21st Radio Five Live will broadcast Fighting Talk live in conjunction with the International Blind Sports Association soccer tournament which takes place in Hereford.
