Hereford United manager Simon Davey has been speaking about how he has approached the first League game of the season, at Crewe on Saturday.
"It'a science," Davey told BBC H&W.
"I always do a five and a half week pre-season.
"Every session is tapered to the needs of the players. It's layered on every day so that when we get to August 7th we are in peak condition.
"And then it is about maintaining it all through the season.
"All we can say is we will be committed. We'll give 100%.
"We want the community, we want the fans to be right behind us and I believe that the squad we have put together this season can compete higher than they did last year."
