The Bulls took all three points from Gresty Road with a 1-0 win over Crewe.
Janos Kovac's bullet header after 16 minutes was enough to seperate the sides in a game that could have ended up 3-3 but for Crewe's inability to shoot and a couple of fine saves from their keeper.
A special mention can be reserved for referee Brendan Malone, on his first Football League outing. On that showing he can return to the Conference, as he struggled to control the game with inconsistent decisions and booked four Bulls while allowing several similar Crewe offences to go un-noticed.
Crewe will be disappointed to get just 4,343 for their season opener, considering they wanted 3,000 season ticket holders, with 905 reported Bulls.
