Shrewsbury are trialling released Doncaster goalkeeper Ben Smith. The 23 year old played 29 times for Donny over four years, usually in cup competitions. Gillingham are giving a trial to Ebbsfleet keeper Lance Cronin but are set to lose out on Darren Dennehy, who appears set to rejoin ex-Gills boss Mark Stimson at Barnet.

Southend have cancelled a third friendly, this time at Conf South side Thurrock. They have just three pre-season matches remaining but have promised supporters more will be added. The Shrimpers will receive a cash boost of £225,000 after Nicky Bailey finally completed his protracted move to Middlesborough. Bradford striker Gavin Grant in on trial for murder after new witnesses to a 2004 shooting pinned the blame on him. Grant, 20 at the time, is said to have shot the man after his friend was 'disrespected'.
