Shrewsbury are trialling Scottish striker Paul Emslie. The 22 year old was released by Rangers earlier in the summer but only made one sub appearance in three years as a pro, scoring twice in 26 games in two loan spells over the past two seasons. Oxford have agreed to release midfielder Adam Murray after the 28 year old failed to settle in the area.
Northampton have withdrawn the contract offer to full back Peter Gilbert after he failed to return his signed contract, with manager Ian Sampson accusing him of trying to use the club for his own gains. Burton have confirmed the signing of former Liverpool trainee forward James Ellison on a two year deal.
Burton boss Paul Peschisolido has admitted that signing ex-Bull Richard Jackson may have been a mistake after he played just two games since signing an 18 month contract with the club. Ongoing back trouble mean he is unlikely to be fit for the start of the new season with no firm diagnosis on the problem. "Hopefully, at some stage he will still be an asset to us, but right now I have to admit that I probably shouldn’t have given him an 18-month deal."
Southend are to speak to Ipswich about Friday's planned friendly with new boss Paul Sturrock having only ten players at his disposal - and not all of them wanting to stay.
