Former Hereford United player Gareth Davies is to become involved with the youth setup at Edgar Street this coming season, following talks with the new owners. As of yet, the role that Davies will take up is undecided but he will be involved in some capacity.
"It's a fresh start for the club. I love Hereford United and I want to give something back to the club that started my career", commented Davies when speaking to Bulls News.
"I would like to see young players come through the ranks and make their debut just like I did, like Chris Price did, like Kevin Sheedy did, Paul Parry etc"
"Having spoken to David Keyte, I think he's looking to build the Hereford United of old. I think they are talking in the right way. I think they want a centre of excellence, they want player development. It's not going to happen in five minutes but I think the people running the club now are looking to be proactive.
"Being a Hereford United fan I want to see the club produce local talent"
Davies started his career as a school boy at Swansea, where he played alongside Simon Davey. He joined Hereford in 1989 at the age of 15, and was sold for £120,000 to Crystal Palace six years later. Spells at Reading and Swindon followed his stint at Selhurst Park; unfortunately, a serious knee injury forced Davies into an early retirement in 2002.
