Adrian Durham – Football Pundit or Clueless Clown?

On his Talksport "Bowtime" programme yesterday evening, Durham referred to Hereford United as cheats in his condemnation of the loan system.

Hereford, last season, got promoted by using four or five really good players who were well above League 2 level but when they went up the players go back and Hereford are going to go down - what was the point in that? It's cheating! Am I right, am I wrong, the loan system is cheating isn't it?

His sidekick, Quinn, seemed to agree claiming that there was a certain way of abusing that loan system. If it was a young players as regards trying to get first team experience, with a view to a permanent deal then I'm all for it but to loan a player out just to take another players place then it's not fair on the player who was in the team in the first place.

Durham then continued his rant by suggesting that West Brom could stay up in the Premiership by taking a loan striker from Arsenal who had nothing to do with the Midlands Club. That's cheating and I can't believe there is anyone who can defend the loan system.

Well, Mr "Cocksure, ill informed" Durham, lets have a look at that facts shall we. Toumani Diagouraga and Theo Robinson from "top club" Watford were hardly first team players at Vicarage Road. They came to gain experience and Toumani actually signed during the close season. Robinson "well above League 2 level" is not exactly ripping The Championship apart at this present moment is he? In any case, should their loan move as part of the Ainsworth transfer have been prevented or would that have been seen as stopping Lionel's loan to Watford "with a view to a permanent move"? Hooper – from Southend, yes another "top club"! Not in their first team, not scoring goals and probably pleased to get a game. He did well during his loan and the only reason he didn't join at the end of the season is because we were outbid. Oh, what about that Sherjil MacDonald bloke from "top club" West Brom? Yep, he played a total of seven games (just two more than Quinn did in his own loan spell at Watford) and all our promotion points were gained during that time.

I've heard some drivel spoken by broadcasters over the years but you, Sir, are the finest example of an idiot that I’ve had the misfortune to listen too. If you're going to criticise Clubs, at least have the decency to get your facts right. Clown.
