Bulls Win will send Dragons to Conference

Hereford United supporters know what it is like to drop out of the Football League. Just eleven years ago they lost their fight to stay in Division Three when Brighton drew with the Bulls on the last day of the season.

After 79 years in the Football League Wrexham are facing relegation to the Conference. Only a win at Edgar Street this evening can give them any possible chance of staying up - and even then it will be a brave man who places much of a bet on that happening.

And if the Dragons lose they go down.

20 Chester 43 -17 44
21 Notts County 44 -17 44
22 Dag & Red 44 -24 43

23 Mansfield 44 -17 42
24 Wrexham 43 -30 37

After this evening's match, Wrexham face Accrington Stanley at home, then travel to Lincoln on the last Saturday of the season.

The Dragons have to win two of their three matches and at least draw the other to have any chance of survival. Mansfield and Dagenham can't both lose their last two games because the League's computer has decided that Dagenham play Mansfield on the last Saturday.

In fact who is likely to join Wrexham in the Conference next season is still wide-open. Even Notts County, who were beaten by Wrexham last Saturday, aren't safe. Neither are Chester.

Wrexham are expected to be relatively unchanged from last Saturday when they brought several young players into their squad, including Graham Turner's recent target, Matty Done.

"Nine of the team that played on Saturday came through the club’s youth system, so it was great to see them win a game," said manager Brian Little to icWales.

"Learning how to win matches is what being a professional footballer is all about, and they showed against Notts County that they have not given up the fight to stay in this league.

"They haven’t had to endure the pressure of the last few months and that showed.

"They were a bit naïve at times, but it was a must-win game and they delivered.

"Now at Hereford these lads will experience a very different game against a decent side."

Turner may make a couple of changes from Saturday. Several of his squad looked tired after three hard games in eight days.

"It is still in our hands and if we win our last three games, we go up automatically," he said.

"We were a bit short on one or two things against Peterborough, but we have to pick ourselves up now.

"We still believe that we have enough experience, know-how and ability to go up automatically."
