Difficult to follow Hereford's closed door policy

Whilst it is perfectly understandable that a friendly that few supporters may want to watch is played behind closed doors, this afternoon's game against Cardiff City could probably have attracted enough interest to made opening a couple of turnstiles worth-while.

Cardiff have said they will bring a team featuring both Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Both are set to make their debuts for the clubs. Riccy Scimeca is also expected to feature after a groin operation.

With most young supporters on holiday, and a few older ones as well, the game might have attracted 500 or so. Whilst there might be extra costs to the club of perhaps £500, the revenue would have exceeded that figure.

There is also the fact that with at least some fans at the ground the atmosphere created can help the players.

Yesterday Hereford United were reported to be upset by Birmingham plans to charge low prices for the Carling Cup game. According to the Blues website Hereford did not agree to this pricing on the basis that 'they would not make any money out of this'.

Surely this is a friendly from which the club might make a few pounds without too much effort?
