Will it be a record gate?

It's not impossible that the gate on Saturday at Leicester could reach close to 20,000.

The highest gate, 19,216, for a Conference play-off game was two years ago when Shrewsbury played Aldershot and defeated them on penalties. Admittedly the game took place at Stoke, handy for the Shrews, but the gate was well in excess of the other two play-off finals.

The play-offs in the Conference were only introduced in 2002/2003. The first final was between Dagenham and Redbridge and Doncaster was played in front of 13,091. Doncaster won 3-2.

Last season Carlisle played Stevenage, again at the Britannia Stadium, but only 13,422 watched this match with the vast majority from Carlisle who won the game 1-0.

This morning Hereford United are well on their way to sales of at least 10,000 tickets. But it will probably need over 12,000 Bulls supporters at the game to stand any chance of beating the record.

Halifax should bring at least 6,000 with them. If they can get nearer to 8,000 then with a few neutrals, the record could be broken.
