Only four remain with Bulls

It's only 17 months since Hereford United last visited Southport but of the squad that was selected to play that day only four remain. Tony James, Jamie Pitman, and Danny Williams started and Rob Purdie was on the bench.

Of the others, Matt Baker has moved to Wrexham and after letting five goals past him last Saturday must still be wondering whether he has made the correct move. Richard Teesdale is now with Hednesford. Michael Rose moved to Yeovil and is regularily starting for the Glovers.

Ian Wright transferred to Burton but has decided to retire because of consistant injury problems. Ben Smith moved up the A49 to Shrewsbury, but he also is out at present with a shoulder problem similar to that he sustained at Hereford. Steve Guinan, now with Cheltenham, has also had injury problems since leaving Edgar Street.

John Grant left Hereford and joined Telford. Later he was, perhaps surprisingly, recruited by Shrewsbury. Karl Hawley was on loan at Hereford from Walsall at the time and is now scoring goals with Carlisle.

Of the substitutes on the day, Rob Sawyers reportedly had a bust-up at Edgar Street and eventually signed for Redditch and later moved to Stourbridge. Ken Griffiths went to Taunton. Albano Correia went back towards the South Coast and seems to have disappeared!

Finally Richard O'Kelly, yes he was on the bench that day - it just shows that the Bulls were either short of players or money to pay them - is now assistant manager at Bournemouth.

Hereford defeated Southport 2-1 on the day with goals from Danny Williams and a cracker from Albano Correia.
