Huge choice of Players
It's back to work this morning for lots of lower league football managers and it's pretty certain that the telephones will be busy.
With players coming and going there will be hours spent in negoiations with agents over terms and conditions.
And with the PFA lists due out in a few days, once again there is likely to be a hugh choice of players to consider.
Graham Turner has said that a new player needs to fit in with the rest of the players as well as being good on the field.
So it is likely that Turner and O'Kelly will use their contacts throughout the game to check on any player they may be interested in. Often they will have seen the player on the field but not off it. Turner may feel that he doesn't need, for example, another Scott Willis on the books.
Of the players with Hereford United last season who have not yet agreed new deals, Simon Travis is expected to sign this week. Should this happen it will bring the number of players in the squad to eleven.
Less certain is the future of Matt Baker, who with Andy Tretton, will be away with the English National squad in America for another friendly. Baker has been the subject of several rumours, but little substance, as to where he will be playing next season.
Ben Smith is another player whose future is unclear. He came to Edgar Street from Southend and there has been speculation that he could be returning to that area with Hornchurch. But even if the money offered was good, it would seem to be a backward step for a player with his ability.
In any case, he was said not to be able to start training until July following the operation to pin his shoulder. It may be that clubs will not be lining up for him until he returns to match fitness.
