United linked with Northwich star

Northwich Victoria's Mark Devlin is the latest player to be linked with a switch to Hereford United.

Reports have suggested that 30-year-old Devlin, who has Football League experience with Exeter City and Stoke City, could switch to Edgar Street on a free transfer after his contract expired with the Cheshire-based club.

The news comes as Northwich boss Jimmy Quinn left the club yesterday to take up the managerial seat at Shrewsbury Town, who were relegated to the Conference this season. It had been thought that Quinn was in talks with former Hereford United striker John Grant about a move to Northwich before he left the club.

Quinn played three matches in attack for Hereford in the 2000/01 season, while Grant featured in Graham Turner's squad last season before his contract expired.

Meanwhile, new website www.hufc-pics.50megs.com has suggested that Hereford United's second pre-season friendly, at Edgar Street against West Bromwich Albion on July 21st, will be 'meaningless'. The game clashes with West Brom's final match of their tour of Denmark, so a combination of reserve and youth-team players is expected at Hereford.
