Hereford drop two points
Hereford United could only draw this afternoon 2-2 against Stevenage. In an exciting game Stevenage took the lead through a Jamie Pitman own goal but the Bulls got one back early in the second period thanks to Steve Guinan. The visitors went ahead late in the game as Barry Laker headed home, but substitute Ian Wright managed to scramble the ball into the net in injury time to level the scores. Hereford should have had a penalty, when John Grant appeared to be brought down in the area, but the referee, who made several questional decisions, disagreed.
Scrambled goal
grabs United a point
Hereford
United 2 - 2 Stevenage Borough
Ian Wright left it late, but seven and a
half minutes into injury time, the defender who had come
on as a substitute on ninety minutes, grabbed Hereford
United a deserved point against Stevenage Borough at
Edgar Street.
United's regular captain has replaced Michael Rose as Graham Turner pushed for an equaliser following Barry Laker's header on eighty eight minutes, which nestled in the bottom corner after a Michael Warner free kick from the right channel.
Hereford had the best of the first half, but went behind on twenty five minutes when a Danny Carroll shot found its way into the back of the net thanks to an unsuccessful clearance by Jamie Pitman. The goal came just four minutes after Steve Guinan had netted at the other end when Danny Williams, returning to the starting eleven following a three-match ban, had released the attacker, but the officials judged the effort to be offside.
Just five minutes after the break, Steve Guinan levelled things when he nodded Jay Lovett's cross from the right into the bottom corner of Lionel Perez's net from close range.
The Bulls then appeared to be robbed of a penalty when John Grant was brought down in the Stevenage area by Justin Gregory, but the referee dismissed the appeals, as he did when a Stevenage defender appeared to handball in the box earlier in the half.
Laker then put Stevenage back into the ascendancy, much to the delight of their ninety supporters in a crowd of 2,322, before Wright popped up late on to ensure the points were shared. His dominant header rose above the defence to fire home a corner from the United left channel by Danny Williams.
