We Need To Be More Creative Said Beadle

Pete Beadle said that his side need to create more chances, despite beating Royston Town 2-0 at Edgar Street this afternoon.

The Bulls boss praised his side for the way they dealt with the threat from set pieces, but says they weren't purposeful enough up front.

Beadle said: "Their main threat today was from set pieces, their throw-ins, corners and free kicks and we coped with those superbly well. If I had any gripes with the boys today it would've been in the final third.

"With the amount of possession we had in the final third, but we didn't create enough chances. It wasn't fluent enough and maybe we weren't creative enough or purposeful enough but it was a really good solid performance today.

"We knew what we were up against and they're a good side. They're well drilled, they work well and organised. They've had a few changes lately but they're challenging for the play-offs. They won their league last year and it was always going to be tough, but the boys did well and played with purpose.

"The four wider players were really influential for us today, but in the final third we lacked a cutting edge. We had enough chances to win it by a few more, but when you think about how much possession we need to work harder to create a few more chances."

Lance Smith worked hard throughout the game, scored the first and was involved in the build up to the second.

"Sometimes we ask him to slow down a little bit, every now and again he overruns the ball and it's just pure willingness to do well. But his willingness today got us the second goal with his enthusiasm to chase down a lost cause.

"He then had the presence and calmness to roll it back to Rob [Purdie] who took a touch and pop it in the back of the net. We needed the second goal as well because it could've been quite nervy towards the end with just the one goal lead."

Back to the league standings, Beadle isn't worried about King's Lynn who are hot on Hereford's heels.

"At the end of the day, what they do is irrelevant, it's all about what we do. We know that if we win all of our games, then we can't be caught - simple as.

"When we get back after a game and you hear the results and if they've had a particularly poor result it's good for us. But I don't expect them to slip up now, they're strong, full of experience and they're the best team we've played this season.

"But I'm not interested in what they're doing at the minute, I'm only interested in what we do."

Reaction from Royston Manager - Steve Castle

Royston Manager Steve Castle spoke to Andy Holmes from BBC Three Counties Radio after the 2-0 loss to Hereford FC.  He felt the referee should have allowed the disallowed goal after 13 minutes. Find out his assessment of the match on the below link.

Today In The Southern Prem

Updated 10.45am - There was set to be a nearly full compliment of fixtures in the Southern Premier League this afternoon but already five games have been postponed.

Bishop's Stortford v Merthyr (match postponed - waterlogged pitch)
Chesham v Redditch (10am pitch inspection - Game ON)
Dorchester v St Neots (9am pitch inspection - Game OFF))
Farnborough v Kings Langley
Frome v Banbury (9am pitch inspection - Game OFF)
Gosport v Biggleswade
Hereford v Royston
Hitchin v Tiverton
Kettering v Weymouth (match postponed - waterlogged pitch)
St Ives v Basingstoke (match postponed - waterlogged pitch)
Stratford v King's Lynn (10am pitch inspection - Games ON)

The match of the day would have been at Kettering (4th) where Weymouth (3rd) were to be the visitors. However with that fixture called off yesterday, it's the game at Edgar Street that will take up the honours.

Leaders Hereford entertain Royston (6th). Hereford have stuttered a little recently losing to both King's Lynn and Basingstoke. However they've won their last two games and should overcome the Crows who have won just seven of their nineteen away games this season in the league.

Hereford 2/5  Draw 41/10  Royston 6/1

Second place Kings Lynn have won their last five games and should continue that run at Stratford (14th) thus keeping up the pressure on Hereford.

Tiverton (7th) travel to Hitchin (10th). Tiverton need a win if they are to have much chance of a play-off place but a draw looks likely.

Can Beadle Make It A Century On Saturday?

Peter Beadle Became Manager Of Hereford United In March 2014
Hereford FC’s Club Historian Ron Parrott gives us another reason why Saturday’s home game against Royston is so important, he explains:-

"Since Peter Beadle took over first-team duties at the end of the 2013/14 season, he has been in charge for 129 league fixtures, spread across the Skrill Premier League, the Midland Premier League, the Southern League South & West and the Southern League Premier.

"He has been on the losing side on just 14 occasions in these fixtures and 16 have been drawn........... meaning that he is now standing on 99 victories!

"So come on Peter, let’s make it a century on Saturday please – I’ll make it a pint if you do it! And to all the players and supporters, let’s come up with a bit of extra special effort and support, we can all do it together and make it a magical 100!"

Saturday Will Be Exciting Said Royston Manager

Royston are the visitors to Edgar Street on Saturday and their manager Steve Castle is expecting an exciting day especially given the gate could be ten times the numbers they usually play in front of.

"It’s very exciting for everyone involved," Castle told the Royston Crow.

"They’re a big club with a fan-base equivalent to a league club, which is the direction they’re heading (back) to.

Hereford Keeper Martin Horsell Saving A Penaly In The Champions Cup Last April
"They were a good outfit last year when we played them (in the Champions Cup), which was a bit of a celebration for both clubs when we played for a trophy.

"Saturday will have more intensity, they’ve got King’s Lynn snapping at their heels for the title."

Royston still have a chance of making the Southern League play-offs.

"It’s very difficult for us to get into it but it’s not out of our range yet and we’ll keep going for it.

"Slough shouldn’t lose the required amount of games for us to get in but you never know and they’ve got a game on Friday away, if they win it puts pressure on us but we’ll keep trying."

Tough Seven Days For Redditch

Redditch FC face a tough seven days ahead. On Saturday they travel to Chesham. On Easter Monday they entertain Hereford. Two days later it's Royston at home and next Saturday Weymouth are the visitors.

Manager Tim Harris admits they've just got to get on with it.

"There is no point in complaining about the schedule, and, looking at it positively, there are some huge tests coming up and, hopefully, we can improve our league position," said Harris as reported by the Redditch OS.

"Chesham are a side that have scored 74 league goals this season, while Hereford, the team that I expect to go up as champions, are expected to bring more than 1,500 fans to The TRICO, so these are wonderful occasions to be part of.”

Several former Hereford players may face their former club next Monday. Aaron Birch, Adam Page, Ashley Sammons, Stuart Fleetwood, Ethan Rose and Joshua Hawker have all played for either Hereford FC or Hereford United.
