Hereford's biggest league win in 10 years

Hereford's stunning win over South Shields was their biggest win in 10 years.

No would could have predicted the 6-0 victory over the previously unbeaten north east side, who are the bookies' tip to win National League North this season.

But Aaron Downes' side were brilliant in every department and sent every one of the 3,677 Bulls fans home in jubilant mood.

This is Hereford's ninth season in National League North, and not once prior to yesterday had they scored six goals in a league match.

On three previous occasions, they had scored five.

First, a 5-2 success over Blyth Spartans during Paul Caddis' first season in charge in 2023/24, then twice last season under Downes.

A 5-2 win over Chester was duly followed by a 5-1 victory over Leamington.

Prior to yesterday, the last time Hereford won 6-0 in a league match was just over 10 years ago when they thumped Bridgwater Town in Southern League Division One South & West. Hereford even had the chance to score a seventh against South Shields, but Aaron Skinner saw his penalty go well over.

Had that had gone in, it would have been Hereford's biggest win since they thumped Heanor Town 8-0 in Midland League Premier Division towards the end of their first since in 2015/16. That is in fact the Bulls' best win since forming.

During that season, Hereford also netted seven at Heanor in a 7-2 victory, while also thrashing Bardon Hill 7-0.

The Bulls also had an 8-0 win in a FA Cup Second Qualifying Round match against Godalming Town in 2017 - a match that saw the away side's keeper sent off after only three minutes.
