Letter To John Sillett From Hereford United

John Sillett

It's surprising what one can find on the internet. The other day BN was alerted to Graham Turner's first contract as manager of Hereford United.

Since then a letter to another former manager has appeared.

This one is from chairman Peter Hill to John Sillett and is dated May 21st 1992.

Dear John

I am dictating this just prior to leaving for Spain for a break. It was good to see you last week and talk over things. I know how disappointed you are at the team's Performance in the second half of the season but I would like to put it on record my sincere appreciation for everything that you have done for the club and really under all the circumstances there is nothing more you could have done with the squad availabl.

Being the professional that you are and knowing the way you have looked after the players, it must be heart breaking to see how some of them have let you down. It is good that the game has such characters as yourself that can still smile and put on a brave face with all the problems that are in the game today. Naturally I am disappointed that you have stepped but I sincerely hope there can still be some association in the future.

As you know our finances are in a dire state at the present time so on our own the club is not able to increase the overheads. I have had a discussion with Peter Haddock at Sun Valley on the idea that we discussed and it was not thrown out of court altogether. At the present time they have agreed to renew their sponsorship but in view of all the changes they wish to pay a part now and the balance in December if things are dstill OK.

I will contact you on my return but in the meantime I have passed on your outstanding expenses to David Vaughan to settle as soon as we are able.

Again, many thanks for everything and also to Jean for all the valiant help and work she gave to the Club and to the Boardroom

Yours very sincerely,

Peter S Hill

Sillett did receive what he was owed but not until the following September.
