Hereford weather forecast as Bulls hope for first home game in a month

Hereford's last home game was more than a month ago on 8th November

The weather forecast for Hereford mercifully appears to be dry between now and Saturday, when the Bulls hope to play their first home game for a month.

The pitch at Edgar Street has been left worse for wear after a wet start to winter, with new drains being installed to improve the playing surface.

As Storm Bram swept across the UK this week, mainly affecting the north, Hereford was hit by more rain on already sodden ground.

But, according to the Met Office, Wednesday should be a mainly dry and sunny day, and Thursday and Friday will be dry with sunny spells.

On Saturday, when Hereford will be hoping to make progress in the FA Trophy with a third-round tie against fellow National League North outfit Radcliffe, the Met Office is forecasting an overcast day - but, crucially, mostly dry.

With the game hopefully going ahead, it will be the first home match since the 2-1 defeat against Southport on 8th November. The Bulls can then look forward to hosting Kidderminster Harriers on Boxing Day before Darlington on 10th January - the same day as the fourth round of the FA Trophy.

After the Peterborough Sports game was switched to PIMS Park earlier this month, Bulls chairman Chris Ammonds said it would give groundsman Ben Bowen more time to continue to undertake work to address the ongoing issue with the playing surface.

Ammonds said he was optimistic that the work being done, including installing two new drains, would "improve the playing surface significantly".

As for fixtures, a small backlog is forming. On 21st October, Hereford were due to face Macclesfield at home, but the visitors' involvement in the FA Cup means that game will now be played Tuesday 20th January.

Into November, and Hereford missed out on two of the scheduled seven games. Saturday 22nd's match away against Scarborough was postponed due to a snow-covered pitch at Bridlington before the home match against Marine on Saturday 29th was fell by the wayside due to a waterlogged pitch.

While the Bulls were due to travel to Bridlington yesterday (Tuesday), a waterlogged pitch saw the tie postponed again. As for Marine, that will now be played on Tuesday 3rd February.

With pitch problems at Edgar Street persisting, Saturday 6th December's scheduled home match against Peterborough Sports was switched to PIMS Park.
