National North Weekend Preview

This from the National League:

How many teams are actually in the National League North title race? The month of March is sure to provide the answer to that question.

Things are getting serious and with just five points separating the top five sides, it’s time to strap yourself in for the ride.

Chester were leading the way throughout February but they know their narrow advantage is an uncomfortable cushion to lay their head on.

They won’t be getting a good night’s sleep, despite their fantastic start to 2025. Now they’ve tasted life in top spot they want to stay there and it’s a visit from Needham Market on Saturday and they need points at the other end.

Chester have a tiny one-point lead, and Scunthorpe United are ready to pounce. They closed the gap on Tuesday night but it’s a tough test next up at Buxton, who are sitting just outside the play-off places.

Brackley Town mean business and five wins from six proves just that. Can they follow up a six-goal display in midweek at Darlington?

Hereford’s form is even better than the Saints but the Bulls aren’t talking up their title chances just yet. It’s now eight wins from nine for one of the country’s most on-song sides and they go to Marine for an intriguing afternoon, the strugglers themselves have won three on the spin.

Chorley are probably title outsiders, but with a game in hand Andy Preece won’t be unhappy to go under the radar. They’re at Leamington next, a ground where no side has it easy.

Are King's Lynn Town too far back? They need to close the title gap from ten points and South Shields visit the Walks this weekend.

Curzon Ashton also have extra games to play and will wonder what a really good run could still do. They host Scarborough Athletic, while Peterborough Sports play Southport who both enjoyed a fruitful midweek.

It’s getting tense down the bottom and two of the sides in trouble meet as Radcliffe visit now-bottom Rushall Olympic.

Three teams sit on 36 points but there’s suddenly a gap between them and the safety mark. So Warrington Town know they’ve got to start winning and fast, starting at Alfreton Town.

Chester 35/66

Scunthorpe 34/65

Brackley 34/64

Hereford 35/62

Chorley 34/61

Kidderminster 33/57
