Floodlight Delay Explained

The delay in installing the new floodlights at Edgar Street has been explained by general manager Jamie Griffiths in an interview with BBC Hereford and Worcester.

The aim had been to have them ready for last Saturday's game but it now looks as though it could be several weeks before they are ready to be used.

"They came in on the Monday as planned," said Griffiths.

"They drilled three holes but they couldn't quite get deep enough because of the water table being so high.

"So they've gone back to the drawing board, work has been delayed but it's still on-going.

"Hopefully, maybe within the next month we'll have the new floodlights.

"The amount of water we had particularily down the Meadow End with the water table being so high they just want to make sure they doing absolutely the right job and future proofing it as well.

"If we continue to get this wet weather year on year the foundations need to be robust enough to cope with that. Yes back to the drawing board slightly to make sure the foundations are good and solid enough.

"Because they can't go low enough they need to go a little bit wider which means they need to get a slightly different machine in and they need to reinforce that hole with concrete which takes a little bit of time to set before they can put the poles in.

"It's still going ahead, it's just a little bit slower than we would have liked.

"Our existing floodlights are still in working order so there are no worries about games not being able to go ahead until we get the new lights.

"Everything was delivered, it was all good to go, the track laid down on the pitch and three of the four holes drilled but that week was one of the wettest we've had.

"May be in a way it was good because they could see the water levels were higher than we anticipated.

"The slightly different method it looks like they are going to do, it might be a slightly longer install time."
