Hereford played their first home pre-season friendly against West Brom Under 21's on Saturday.
And it's probably fair to report that they impressed right from the start.
Manager Paul Caddis choose a strong eleven for the first half.
Shay Sterry, Cosmos Matwasa, Mark Derricott, Kyle Howkins, Lewis Hudson, Chay Tilt, Tate Campbell, Lawson D'Ath, Alex Babos, Andy Williams, Jason Cowley.
Young keeper Sterry was in for Aaron Campbell who 'had an issue'.
The game started 30 minutes late. It appeared that an ambulance due to have been outside Edgar Street had to be diverted elsewhere. Eventually it was decided to go ahead.
Just three minutes into the friendly Hereford, playing in the new away kit, took the lead. Andy Williams forced the West Brom keeper to concede a corner. It was cleared to Lewis Hudson whose powerful shot beat the keeper.
Five minutes later a second goal for the Bulls.
Jason Cowley rose to meet a cross from Chay Tilt. The powerful header gave the West Brom little hope.
Ten minutes later it might have been 3-0. Another headed from Cowley but it looks as though it was going inches wide when the keeper gathered.
A Hereford free kick after Tilt was fouled was taken by Alec Babos. He propelled the ball just over the wall. The keeper didn't gather cleanly and the ball found Hudson who shot but the keeper was alert to the danger.
West Brom got one back through Sule on 30 minutes.
Right at the end of the half Matwasa, who looked lively on the right, put in a cross towards Babos but he was marked out by a defender before he could turn and shoot.
Half time: Hereford 2 West Brom 1
Paul Caddis took off Williams and Tilt and brought on Rooney and Ceesay who was back looking for a new deal.
Hereford started brightly and on 52 minutes winger Matwasa swept a long ball in front of an on-rushing Cowley but the striker couldn't quite get to it.
Three minutes later Cowley did connect.
A long throw from Babos is cleared as far as Cowley on the edge of the box. His strong shot gave the keeper little chance.
Just after Caddis took off Babos, Matwasa and Derricott and brought on Teixeira, Tolley and a trialist.
On 68 minutes Howkins and D'Ath left the field to be replaced by latest signing Preston and another trialist.
West Brom were back in the game at this stage without really troubling the Hereford defence.
Jack Tolley had to leave the field after only 20 minutes of play. He appeared to have a strain and was seen later with an ice-pack.
Ceesay got himself into a good position but his shot went wide.
Even in the last ten minutes Hereford had several half chances to increase their lead.
Overall a good performance from Hereford who were seldom troubled by the young West Brom side.
Whilst Cowley would probably have been man of the match with his two goals, Matwasa looked a real danger on the right wing.
Only disappointment was the under 800 gate.
