Former Hereford forward Kelsey Mooney scored a first-half hat-trick for Boston at Gloucester |
Gloucester City boss Mike Cook has said his players embarrassed themselves and the club after shipping seven goals at home against Boston United.
A first-half hat-trick for former Hereford forward Kelsey Mooney saw the Tigers crumble to a 7-3 defeat, Gloucestershire Live reported.
Ben Beresford scored his seventh of the season to bring Gloucester some hope, however a flurry of goals in the last 20 minutes leaves Gloucester nine points adrift from safety and Tigers boss Cook evaluated another defeat.
Blasting the performance, he said: “They were just way off it. We had a talk after and said 'we’ve got nine games left, if we play like that we’ve got no chance. It’s not just the club you’ve embarrassed; you’ve embarrassed yourselves'.
“They’re a very good side, a full-time club and have a good wage bill, if we’re going to compete then that’s the level we need to get to; it’s a reality check for all of us.
“When we got to 4-3, we thought we had half a chance, we were okay from 15-20 minutes in that second half, we took a few risks and it didn’t pay off."
