Six Home Games For Truro In Ten Days (Updated Article)

It's a round trip of 600 kilometres or 375 miles to travel from Truro to Gloucester and back.

And that's the journey Truro face not once but six times in the space of ten days if they want to watch their club's next six 'home' games.

In other words 3600 kilometres or 2250 miles.

Why Gloucester? Because it's the only pitch available in the South West given all the wet weather.

Here's their fixture list - all six games are at 'home'.

April 4th Hemel Hempstead

April 6th Aveley

April 8th Torquay

April 10th Eastbourne

April 11th Yeovil

April 13th Maidstone

And to add to the difficulties for the club their Saturday game on April 6th kicks off at 7.30pm.

Watch: Bowen reveals most treasured football items (the first isn't a surprise)

Jarrod Bowen with director Dave Preedy in 2014

Premier League and England football Jarrod Bowen has revealed his most treasured football possessions.

In a video with TNT Sports, the 27-year-old went through his keepsakes, starting with his first senior shirt.

That, of course, is a 2013/14 Hereford home shirt. Now a star of West Ham United's side, Bowen made his senior debut in Hereford United's 2-0 loss at Barnet in what was then the Conference.

Under caretaker boss Peter Beadle, who had been in charge of the youth team where Bowen was a part, Bowen went on to make eight appearances as the side escaped relegation on a dramatic and memorable final day of the season with a 2-1 win at Aldershot.

But it proved somewhat pointless as the Bulls were later expunged from the Conference for their off-the-field problems and folded months later.

But for Bowen, the shirt - and the memory of his first senior goal in front of the Meadow End at his childhood club - are staying with him forever. On that day, April 21, the Bulls beat Alfreton Town 3-2 at home.

Among his other keepsakes are his England legacy cap, with his number on front; the match ball from his first hat trick, which came in February; and a players' player of the year award from his time at Hull City.

But Bowen proved he is still modest despite his stellar career so far, keeping the possessions in a private room so they're not the first thing guests see and think it's the 'Jarrod show'.

Home Win - Bank Holiday Banker

It’s Buxton at Edgar Street on Monday, with Hereford FC perfectly placed to ‘do a Kidderminster’ in rocking up to the play-off party late and beating everyone, before ‘not doing a Kidderminster’ and staying in the fifth tier next season.

For a plastic pitch outfit, Buxton are surprisingly not reliant on home form to keep them afloat. They’ve won nine games away this season and only South Shields have scored more goals on their travels. They don’t tend to draw either. This may be a must-win for the Bulls, but it’s undoubtedly going to be significantly tougher than the Farsley must-win.

However…

The visitors have recently hit a bit of a dip in form, losing three of their last four games, and they got thrashed 4-1 at home to Chester on Friday, when Hereford were taking an enforced day off. That dip leaves them with precisely nothing to play for here and for the rest of the season, which should play into the hands of the hosts, who still have lots to play for in attempting to ‘do a Kidderminster’.

Also, Bucks manager Craig Elliott recently announced he’d be leaving at the end of the season, giving rise to potential further indifference from the opposition on Monday. Elliott gave an honest assessment of the Chester defeat, saying that the Seals wanted it more. Hereford have to ensure that they want it more too all over the pitch, and given the relative positions of these two sides it should be a given that the players in the white shirts are more motivated than the ones in…er, whatever colour shirts Buxton play away in. It seems to often be pink in the National League North, or something designed by a primary school art class.

Striker Ben Andreucci, on loan from Bolton, was the stand-out player for Buxton in the Chester game, scoring their goal and proving to be a constant threat. Chester enjoyed a lot of success in that game down their right-hand side, which may suggest that ex-Bull Adam Livingstone had a bit of a torrid time for his new club. There was plenty to like about the Scot while he was at Edgar Street but he was never totally solid defensively. He’ll love dealing with Jid Okeke.

Much-travelled striker Jake Wright, always good for a goal or two at this level, has been a bit-part player so far this season, but has started recently. He averages a yellow card every other game though, which won’t have helped his club’s cause – silly narna. His newly formed partnership with Andreucci has been described as ‘potent’, so potent as to have delivered one point in the last four games.

Diego de Girolamo scores a goal every other game when fit, but has been on the bench for the last two games. He’s their top scorer with 13 goals, and recently played his 200th game for the club.

Defender Max Hunt has experience higher up with our old friends Aldershot and Yeovil, and has weighed in with a couple of goals this season.

Midfielder Sam Osborne is a very useful player at this level, but hasn’t been playing recently. I’m not entirely sure why not.

Results elsewhere again didn’t go Hereford’s way on Good Friday, and four wins from the last five games are needed to be in the play-off mix. I’m increasingly thinking that the person who thought 70 points would be enough (was it the Chester manager?) forgot that this season consists of 46 games, not 42, but it seems unlikely that you could make that mistake if you’re an NLN manager.

Buxton finished a point short of the play-offs in their first NLN season last time, and 12 points above Hereford. However, that won’t be the case this time, as they’re currently seven points behind the Bulls having played a game more. If we were to surmise that they’ve stood still in terms of their progress, it suggests that Hereford are the best part of 20 points better off under Caddis than they were last season, and this is his first season in management, managing a brand new squad who started the season more or less as strangers to one another.

With players of the calibre of Alex Babos signing on for next season to give some continuity for once, that rate of progress should ramp up to put rocket boosters under a proper promotion push next season, if the club just falls short this time. It feels like things are finally being done in a professional way, a way that befits a club that attracts 2500 to each home game.

Tope Obadeyi will be available for this one and looks to be in very good nick, and the Banbury postponement has allowed Yusifu Ceesay another couple of days to recover from his sore knee. If Caddis can find a formation that accommodates those two, Okeke and an Alex Babos presumably full of oomph having signed on for next season, there’s more creativity there than in a primary school art class.

When you dig down into the nitty-gritty, Buxton look to be in the same sort of state of flux that Banbury are in, and whilst, with certain exceptions, you don’t like to see that at another club, there’s plenty to like here about the prospects for a home win with, dare I say it, a few goals too. A 20-0 victory would be ideal in terms of play-off goal difference, and would be a good watch.

But with regard to the play-offs and moving on up, given that Shrewsbury seemingly need to burn through what is essentially a £3m-a-year subsidy from some mug to allow them to continue as a struggling League 1 outfit, what, actually, are we looking to get promoted into? A toxic world of debt?

The doolally Premier League trickle-down effect is going to destroy football as it’s been known in this country for a hundred years, and everyone – clubs, fans, FA (sigh), government (bigger sigh) are sleepwalking into it. To paraphrase M&S: there’s greed-induced insanity, and there’s football-world greed-induced insanity. Thanks Rupert.

Having said that, I’m not sure how many more winter evening matches versus Alfreton and everything they represent I can cope with. I’d possibly give £3m to avoid another one if I had it.

Happy Easter everyone.

Kidderminster Look Doomed

Kidderminster will probably need to win all of their last four matches and hope that others above them drop lots of points, if they are not to be relegated to the National North League.

Yesterday Altrincham defeated Kiddy 3-1 at Aggborough, the first time Altrincham have won there since 1994.

Bottom of the National League:

19 - Ebbsfleet 40/48

20 - Wealdstone 39/47

21 - Boreham Wood 41/44

22 - Kidderminster 42/43

23 - Dorking 41/42

24 - Oxford City 42/32

The excellent Harries Online reported:

"A lesson in finishing from Altrincham looks to have consigned the Harriers to a return to the death pit of the National North for next season.

"A miracle might happen, but that’s only in fiction, and our miracle didn’t turn up today."

At least Kidderminster would something to look forward next season. They will have the pleasure in playing Hereford over the Xmas/New Year period.

That, of course, assumes Hereford are not promoted to the National League which remains a possibility.

Download The Standing Order Mandate And Details Of Entry

Details and Rules Of Entry

Standing Order Mandates for this scheme are available at the club shop, at the main club office and on this page. Hopefully they will also be handed out on the turnstiles at a game in the near future.

This fund has been set up after an idea to raise money for Hereford United FC was put forward on the clubs official website by a supporter, this followed several supporters enquiries asking for ways to donate to the club during the present difficult times.

The idea is that United fans can donate an amount of their choosing to the Save The Bulls Fund once a month, this is done by filling in a Standing Order Mandate Form and presenting it to your bank. For every £1 donated you will receive 1 entry into a monthly draw to take place before a home match during the season and at the club office during close season (i.e. £20 = 20 entries, £2 = 2 entries). The draw will be made by an independent person chosen by the club.

The winner of the draw shall receive 20% of the total amount paid into the fund the previous month (£500 paid into fund = £100 for the winner of the draw). All profits made on this scheme will go straight to Hereford United Football Club.

A list of entrants for any given month will be made available in the club office, this facility is for entrants to check that they are actually entered if they should wish to (ID required).

The first draw will take place at the beginning of April. Winners of the draw will be announced as the draw takes place, on this website and in the following match programme. Please note that if you require notification of a win in the draw personally (by phone or letter) then please make these details available to the club by mail and address it to The Save the Bulls Fund.

The club would like to thank all our fans taking part in this scheme, your support and help is greatly appreciated. Stay United!

Drone pictures show Banbury's pitch after Hereford game postponed

Drone pictures show Banbury United's Spencer Stadium at around 3.50pm this afternoon. Pictures: Banburyshire 360

Drone pictures taken this afternoon show the waterlogged ground around Banbury United's pitch.

Hereford were due to face the Puritans on Good Friday but the game was postponed at around 10.15am this morning due to a waterlogged pitch.

Eight games have fallen victim to the weather at the Spencer Stadium so far this season and Banbury will now be playing twice a week - and one week three times - until the end of the season.

Hereford will now visit midweek, possibly on Thursday, April 11, two days before a six-pointer away at Warrington Town.

Banbury said ground staff were at the club from 7am and in a post on their website, the club blamed high river and brook levels around the pitch meaning there was nowhere for the water to drain away.

Drone pictures from Banburyshire 360, taken at around 3.50pm this afternoon, show the problems facing the club, who are also aiming to raise £7,500 to cover the cost of postponements.

The pictures show parts of the pitch, and the land surrounding it, are waterlogged.

The photographer said: "It wasn't really raining until the evening and then this morning it was coming down like thunder".

"The river flows underneath the gym and in the space of three hours it probably gone a foot higher and that's generally not a good sign for football," they added.

The Puritans said they knew many Hereford fans had already made the trip to Banbury today, with social media posts showing a packed station platform at Hereford this morning.

The club said they shared the "extreme disappointment" and also lamented the financial blow.

The club said: "As we know from many times before (this is our eighth match postponement this season), this is a river problem, not a pitch problem," they said.

"This is a huge disappointment to both Banbury and Hereford supporters who were looking forward to this Good Friday match. This is another huge financial hit to our club and everyone involved is devastated."

National League North results and updated table - Tamworth all but seal title

The wait to be crowned National League North champions goes on for Tamworth after this afternoon's National League North matches.

The table toppers, despite winning at home against already-relegated Bishop's Stortford, still aren't champions as Chorley's win at struggling Darlington means they could still be caught.

But the Lambs only need a point from their remaining four games to be mathematically crowned champions and secure their second promotion in as many seasons.

Kyle Finn scored the third goal in Tamworth's 3-0 win, and for Scunthorpe, they couldn't break the deadlock at home against mid-table King's Lynn. Tom Pugh, who spent more than a month on loan at Edgar Street this season, struck the woodwork late on in that game.

For Hereford, they slip to 12th and are now five points outside the play-off places - and with a goal difference of -1, it may as well be six points.

The Bulls do have a game in hand over several sides, but not Alfreton Town or Boston United. Hereford face the latter at home on the last day of the season.

Alfreton Town (0) 1-0 (0) Rushall Olympic
Banbury United P-P Hereford
Blyth Spartans (1) 2-3 (0) Curzon Ashton
Boston United (2) 2-1 (0) Peterborough Sports
Buxton (1) 1-4 (1) Chester
Darlington (0) 0-3 (1) Chorley
Farsley Celtic (0) 0-0 (0) Southport
Gloucester City (1) 1-1 (0) Brackley Town
Scarborough Athletic (1) 2-2 (1) Warrington Town
Scunthorpe United (0) 0-0 (0) King's Lynn Town
South Shields (0) 2-0 (0) Spennymoor Town
Tamworth (0) 3-0 (0) Bishop's Stortford

The updated league table can be found here.

Tamworth Could Take League Title This Afternoon

Tamworth could take the National North League title this afternoon.

But it will only happen if they defeat Bishop's Stortford and Scunthorpe drop at least a point at home against King's Lynn.

Currently Tamworth have 86 points and Scunthorpe 75 points.

So if Tamworth win this afternoon they will have 89 points and if Scunthorpe they will have 78 points.

Should that happen then Tamworth will have to wait until Easter Monday at least to win the title.

Fans await new date for postponed Banbury game - here's when it could be

Both Hereford and Banbury United fans will be waiting on news for when today's postponed National League North game might go ahead.

It was Banbury's eighth postponed of the season and they still have seven games left to play.

That is compared to Hereford's five.

Banbury are now playing twice a week until the end of the season:

Monday, April 1: Bishop's Stortford (a) – 3pm

Saturday, April 6: King's Lynn Town (h) – 3pm

Tuesday, April 9: Spennymoor Town (a) - 7.45pm

Saturday, April 13: Chorley (a) – 3pm

Tuesday April 16: Boston United (h) - 7.45pm

Saturday, April 20: Tamworth (h) – 3pm

Meanwhile, here is Hereford's fixture list:

Monday, April 1: Buxton (h) – 3pm

Saturday, April 6: Scunthorpe United (a) – 3pm

Saturday, April 13: Warrington Town (a) – 3pm

Tuesday, April 16: Hereford Pegasus (h) - 7.45pm (HFA County Cup Final) - likely U18s

Saturday, April 20: Boston United (h) – 3pm

While the game could be squeezed in next Wednesday (April 3), it could also be played on Thursday, April 11 or the following Thursday which is April 18.

Perhaps it is unlikely to be the latter as the season finishes two days later.

Either way, Banbury are already lamenting the "huge financial hit" as the gate is likely to be much smaller midweek than what it would've been today on Good Friday.

Devastated Banbury lament huge financial blow and blame river for postponement

Banbury United have said groundstaff were looking at the pitch for three hours before the decision was made to postpone this afternoon's game.

It is Banbury's eighth postponement this season and they are already playing twice a week until the end of the season.

The match was postponed at 10am due to water still lying on the pitch, that's despite Banbury saying their grounds team was "monitoring the pitch since 7am to see if the water would be likely to subside".

But with patches of water still standing, "the independent pitch inspection resulted in the match being called off" and the club has also sad it'll be a huge financial blow.

In a post on their website, Banbury blamed high river and brook levels around the pitch meaning there was nowhere for the water to drain away.

"As we know from many times before (this is our eighth match postponement this season), this is a river problem, not a pitch problem," they said.

"This is a huge disappointment to both Banbury and Hereford supporters who were looking forward to this Good Friday match. This is another huge financial hit to our club and everyone involved is devastated.

"We continue to pursue investigations into the impact to our Club from surrounding waterways, with the Environmental Agency (sic) and with the assistance of our MP who is escalating our plight with her ministerial colleagues."

The Puritans said they knew many Hereford fans had already made the trip to Banbury today, with social media posts showing a packed station platform at Hereford this morning.

The club said they share the "extreme disappointment".

"Our volunteers in the grounds, marketing and ticketing teams have ploughed many hours behind-the-scenes in the last fortnight, to make it possible to host you," they added.

It is not yet clear how Hereford fans will get refunds or when the game is likely to be played.
