Mark Derricott has said he's excited and looking forward to the new season, but hopes he might feature in more first-team matches.Mark Derricott played in the second half at Pegasus on Saturday
The young defender played the second half in yesterday's 4-1 friendly win at Pegasus Junior.
Lining up alongside two youth teamers, Adam Livingstone and seven trialists, Derricott didn't look out of place and made some good runs down the right flank.
Of those seven trialists, one was Aneurin Livermore, formerly of Newport County and who played one game for the Whites last season, and another was defender Kyle Howkins. He has been out of the game since suffering an ACL injury at Solihull Moors. Also on the pitch in the second half was James Taylor, formerly on the books at Crystal Palace and he last played for Tonbridge Angels in the National League South.
But Derricott said the changing room is already coming together, with 14 players now signed up for the coming season. Caddis still wants another four or so though.
After the game, he told Bulls News: "45 minutes at right back. I haven't played right back for a while, to be fair.
"I know last season I sort of played there a little bit, sort of chops and change between centre half and right back.
"Hopefully, establish myself in one of those positions, so yeah, we'll see."
On his stay at Hereford being extended, he said: "I spoke to the gaffer when he came in, and he just sort of outlined what he wanted from the season, from us and also me personally.
"I think I sort of fitted into what he wanted to do this season, and I was sort of excited by it and that sort of thing.
"Obviously he let me know his interest in signing me, and for me it was a bit of a no-brainer really, sort of stay at Hereford and hopefully progress."
Derricott said Luke Haines had already warned him Caddis would train his players hard, and when asked about changes elsewhere, he said: "Apart from personnel obviously, I think it's just a different way of playing.
"I think that's the main change for me, and obviously me being here last year, I've got to adapt to that as well, and obviously the boys coming in have got to adapt as well.
"It'll be a challenge for us but I think it's a challenge that we can do because I think the gaffer has set all his targets out clear as day to us so it's now just about us going on the pitch now and doing it."
