Gowling Wants Next Season's Budget Confirmed

Ryan Mclean Is Signed For Next Season

Hereford FC manager Josh Gowling has told the Hereford Times that he wants next season's budget confirmed so he can start to offer new deals to players he would like to keep at Edgar Street.

Just two players are already signed for next season, Ryan Mclean and Harry Pinchard.

"I’ve had the conversation with the board and said really we need to start knowing what our budget is for next season asap," said Gowling.

Unfortunately setting next season's budget may be easier said than done.

The club is expected to lose money this current season. With little income from both the FA Cup and FA Trophy and average gates below expectations, the board are in a difficult situation.

Of course if performances on the pitch keep improving as they have done recently and the club are challenging for a play-off place then gates, and therefore income, should improve. But that can't be taken for granted as yet.

And the effects of Covid are still being felt.

So even if the club does set a budget for next season it's unlikely to be more than the current season which has been described as 'competitive'. It was somewhat less than the previous season.

In the year ending May 2020 the club lost £283,208 and in the year ending May 2021 the club lost £68,738.

And with another loss likely this season, there isn't too much money left in the club kitty.
