"We're Delighted To Get The Result" Said Gowling

Josh Gowling said he was relieved to get a first league win at Edgar Street yesterday. Hereford defeated Chorley 1-0 with the goal scored by Miles Storey.

"Relief I suppose," said the Hereford manager.

"I think we got what we deserved.

"I don't think we've had what we deserved in a lot of games this season and it's nice to get a bit of the rub of the green and get the goal the way we did and the defensive performance was really pleasing.

"Today for me wasn't about having possession, it was about being solid.

"We played players who were a bit more industrious and worked harder.

"It was probably the most opportunities we've created in a game of football this season, that's from us being a bit more solid and industrious.

"That's not the best we've played all season in possession, it's probably the worst in possession but we wanted to have a platform to build on.

"We spoke to the lads before the game and said to the back four get us in at half-time 0-0 and we'll win the game and that's what they did.

"They were solid, Ben was excellent, Chief was excellent, Jared and Patrick and Brandon were phenominal. It gives us a platform to build on.

"Saying that in the first half look at some of the chances were created, it's weird because people think we don't create chances because sometimes we just let the final pass go but you look at the one where Ryan's rolled in the second half and he slides Miles back in and he's clean through on goal. Now for me that's a clear cut opportunity and I think that's where we are just lacking a little bit.

"But that comes with games, it comes with putting the ball in the back of the net, it comes with confidence. I think we are not as confident as we should be in front of goal and that's the reason we are not seeing as many goals as we should."

Chorley are third in the table and Storey's goal was the first away goal they had let in since August.

"They are difficult. We do homework and we implemented it well today. We didn't want to give them any space first and foremost.

"We knew that if we brought them on, sucked them on, we might with our pace with Ryan and Miles get balls in behind which the goal has come from.

"All credit to them, I think they were late so we delayed kick-off for them. We want to do things right. We played Boston last week and we had twenty minutes to warm up.

"I want to beat teams at their best so we gave them the time to get prepared.

"I'm so proud of our lads because they've not got what they deserved this season, we should not be second from bottom.

"You can see some of the teams that have been down there throughout the years and we're nowhere near that. But we've not had the rub of the green.

"I think it helps with our fans just cheering us on, pushing us on, giving us that comfort blanket for us to go forward, keep trying and knock down that door and eventually get that opportunity.

"We just delighted to get to the result."
