Barry Griffiths In The Press Box At Edgar Street |
Barry Griffiths, the photographer who captured many of the pictures when Hereford defeated Newcastle in the FA Cup in 1972, has died at the age of 81.
One of the many tributes to him has come from Andy Compton, the former Hereford Journal photographer.
"I am devastated to hear the news of Barry's passing," Andy told BN.
"Barry gave me plenty of good advice and encouragement over the years working in opposition on the Hereford Times and latterly when he freelanced for the Hereford and Mid Wales Journals.
"We both loved Hereford United, photography and newspapers. I enjoyed his company.
"He will be sorely missed by many people".
Richard Prime, who worked alongside Barry at the Hereford Times, has also paid a tribute.
"Barry was a regular fixture at Edgar Street for 40 years," said Richard as reported by the HT.
"He was a very nice guy and very enthusiastic about sport.
"He was one of the good guys."
Trevor Owns from BBC Hereford and Worcester was another journalist who worked along side Barry for many years.
"So sorry to hear of the passing of Barry Griffiths - legend of the Edgar Street press box for so long.
"A lovely man who did so much for the club and with whom I enjoyed many great conversations over the years.
"My condolences to his family."
