The Southern League has congratulated Hereford FC on reaching Wembley for the second time in their short history.
'The Southern Football League passes on its congratulations to one of its
former members, Hereford FC, for reaching the Buildbase FA Trophy Final
on May 22nd at Wembley after beating Woking on Saturday.
The Bulls, who were only formed in 2015 to replace the folded Hereford United, progressed through one season in the Midland League to the Southern League Division One South West in 2016.
It took only one season for the club to win back-to-back promotions with 107 points and 108 goals from 42 games.
They have stalled rather in the Vanarama National League North, finishing 17th and 16th respectively before this season was declared null and void.
Their Trophy run began with a 3-0 win against Southern League Division One Central side St Neots Town in the Second Round at Edgar Street and then a 1-0 win over Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit Nantwich Town in the Third Round at the Weaver Stadium.
Next up came a 2-0 win at the Zeeco Stadium against NPL Division One South East side Stamford AFC and then a 1-0 Fifth Round victory over league rivals Leamington.
The Bulls first `upset` came in the Quarter Final when they ousted National League side Aldershot Town from the competition after a 5-3 penalty shoot-out thriller at the Electrical Services Stadium after a 1-1.
Then on Saturday at Edgar Street, a 22nd minute header by Joey Butlin eventually proved enough against National League Woking - the three-times winners of the Trophy – to return to Wembley where they will be hoping to put the record straight after losing 4-1 to then-Northern League outfit Morpeth Town in the FA Vase Final of 2015/16.
However, the Bulls will find themselves as favourites on May
22nd as Isthmian League Premier Division Hornchurch were also shock
winners in their semi-final at Meadow Lane against National League side
Notts County.'
