Hereford went down 1-0 at home to National League North leaders Gloucester City tonight - their second defeat in a row at Edgar Street.
Matt McClure scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute in an action-packed match that saw the visitors miss a penalty and both teams having a player sent off.
Akwasi Asante saw his spot-kick saved by Paul White before the Gloucester striker was dismissed in the second half.
That came after Tom Owen-Evans also picked up a second yellow card for Hereford.
Bulls manager Josh Gowling made one change to the side that comprehensively beat Blyth Spartans at the weekend, with James McQuilkin coming in for Ben Pollock. New signing Richard Whittingham, meanwhile, was on the bench while ex-Hereford player Tommy O'Sullivan started for Gloucester.
The away side opened the scoring when a long throw from George Carline was flicked on into the path of McClure to nod home.
Hereford had a great opportunity to equalise just five minutes later by Lenell John-Lewis could only head wide from McQuilkin's whipped cross.
White then ensured the scoreline remained at 1-0 by palming behind Asante's shot before the away side were awarded a penalty when Yan Klukowski brought down McClure in the 32nd minute. But Asante's spot kick was poor and it was an easy save for White. Asante was subsequently booked when he fouled Jamie Grimes as he attempted to score the rebound. Klukwoski had to go off on the stroke of half time and was replaced by Giles Coke.
In the 55th minute, Gavin Gunning saw his free kick go just wide for Gloucester before Kelsey Mooney had a trio of chances for Hereford.
First, he failed to get on the end of Owen-Evans' cross before shooting straight at Rhys Lovett, the former Cheltenham goalkeeper who was on trial at Hereford during pre-season. And then, Mooney again failed to get on the end of a cross as the Bulls pressed for an equaliser.
Another opportunity went begging in the 72nd minute when McQuilkin's flicked shot hit the post, with Owen-Evans receiving a second yellow card for a late challenge as he tried to scramble home the rebound.
Gloucester were also reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards when a bad challenge by Asante on Jared Hodgkiss saw him pick up a second yellow card. With three minutes remaining, Alex Whittle hit the side netting with a fierce effort which would have sealed the win for the away side, but at the other end Hereford failed to create anything of note and it was Gloucester who went home with the three points.
It means that at home, Hereford have lost two in two with no goals scored, while on the road it's a completely different story with seven points out of nine and three clean sheets. Next up is another home game when the Bulls entertain Chorley on Saturday.
