Jarrod Bowen scored his first goal for West Ham last Saturday and their website has some quotes from Peter Beadle, his former manager at Hereford, in an article about him.
Jarrod Bowen comes as advertised
Jarrod Bowen’s first manager in professional football, his Hereford United boss Peter Beadle, said the following about the 23-year-old before Saturday’s game:
“The better the players he plays with, the better Jarrod will become, so I think West Ham is a fantastic move for him; at the perfect time, to a good, solid club.
“I think he’ll bring something extra to the team, and that’s what every manager asks when any new signing comes in; they want them to bring something different to their side, and Jarrod will certainly do so to West Ham.
“He’s going to come up against some of the best defenders in the country, in the world, in the Premier League, but I don’t think that will faze him. It’s a fantastic trait to have – all he wants to do is play well and succeed.
“Once he finds his feet, I’m confident he’ll pretty quickly become a regular, and then hopefully, he’ll shine from there.”
Well, it didn’t take long for Bowen to find his feet, as West Ham United’s new No17 marked his home and full debut with a well-taken goal – one of a team-high four shots he unleashed on the Southampton goal.
Perhaps the most telling moment of Bowen’s afternoon, other than his goal, came just after Michail Antonio had put West Ham United 3-1 up, when he reacted quickly and showed superb work-rate to nick the ball off Ryan Bertrand’s toe as the Saints player was about to unleash a shot from close range. That commitment, along with his undoubted talent, sharp and elusive movement, and knack for scoring goals, will surely see him fulfil Beadle’s prophecy.
