Richard Wilkins has lost his job as manager of Needham Market.
The former Hereford United player said that his departure had come as a 'complete surprise'.
Needham Market play in the Southern League Premier Central.
"It has come out right out of the blue, but then you can never be too surprised when it comes to football," said Wilkins as reported by the East Anglian Daily Times.
"It's happened to me a couple of times before at other clubs when I've felt I've done well there.
"However, that's football for you.
"It's not really about our good recent results. You feel settled in a club and feel everything is going to plan, but then this comes totally out of the blue."
Wilkins left Cambridge United to play for Hereford United in 1994. Two years later he was sold to Colchester for £30,000.
Whilst with Hereford the midfielder made 77 appearances and scored five goals.
