Andrew Graham Interview Post AGM

After last night's Hereford FC AGM, chairman Andrew Graham spoke to BN.

Below is the first part of the interview.

"I thought it was a very productive meeting," said Graham'

"There were some points made by shareholders that will enable us to be, I think, more structured in the future and enable us to provide both the shareholders and the wider fan base with the required information."

Rob Crawford has just joined the board.

"A brilliant acquisition for the board. Rob is a very experienced businessman, has a fantastic track record and as a member of the initial shareholders has been doing some work with our employees to look at business improvement within the company to make us more effective, to make us more structured and as a result of that work and as a result of George Webb standing down there became a vacancy for an IS (Initial Shareholder) nominated director.

"My intention, as I said from the start, was to have a lot more transparancy from the boardroom. We have a HUST nominated director as chairman, a HUST director as a club director and I thought it was a great opportunity to maybe have an IS director also."

The board is one member short at present. It's a HUST nominated director and Graham hoped they would nominate someone shortly.

"I really, really hope so. Whilst Rob Bullock is effective on the board and is currently co-opted, he doesn't have voting rights but it hasn't been an issue to date.

"But I would like us to have the full compliment of directors from both camps because it's a lot more transparent that way."

The 18/19 accounts showed a small profit.

"It's always healthy to have a profit.

"Running a club of this size with the expenses that it sometimes attracts is a very careful operation. It also depends very much on performances on the pitch and whether or not the crowd fluctuates, season tickets fluctuate.

"I think we've done well for the financial year we've just reported to keep our costs to a relative minimum but the playing budget has gone up significantly so we'll have to wait and see what the future holds."

The club hasn't issued a profit and loss account which you've done in the past. Can you explain why?

"I think there was a feeling that in the past, as Peter Churchus alluded to or stated, it has provided our competitors with a bit of an advantage looking at how we operate.

"I know there was one club we played this year where they literally put our footballing budget on A4 pieces of paper on the hangers of our players to wind them up. So we don't want that happening.

"But we also have to appreciate that when shareholders require or want that specific information we as a board have to work to provide as much information as we possibly can so it works for both sides.

"We've listened to what has been said and will amend what we do. We'll ensure the shareholders get what they want but that it doesn't affect the club as well. We need to accomodate both camps."
