Bowen Agrees Terms With West Ham

Jarrod Bowen is moving to West Ham. The former Hereford United youngster has agreed terms with the Premiership club.

Along with his family, Bowen met West Ham manager David Moyes this evening.

According to Sky Sports News, West Ham will pay £18million, with a further £7million in potential add-ons. It's a five and a half year deal.

Bowen Continues To Talk To Hammers

Jarrod Bowen is reported to be still talking to West Ham as at 8pm this evening.

One report says he is to meet manager David Moyes after passing his medical earlier.

Another report is suggesting that Bowen is concerned about the terms of any deal should West Ham be relegated at any time if Bowen was with the club.

Apparantly his wages would be cut in half.

There is speculation that he has asked for £60K per week but has been offered closer to £40K.

Meanwhile the Sun has said Bowen is hoping Newcastle might make an offer for him.

New Coaching Post For Former Bull

Former Hereford United player Dan Stratford (third from left) has landed a coaching post with West Virginia Athletic.

Stratford became a fresher at West Virginia in 2004 when he arrived from London.

"Incredibly excited to be here, it does feel like a bit of a homecoming for me," said Stratford.

"Crazy to think that 2004 as a freshman stepped foot, not just in the United States for the first time but here in Morgantown, West Virginia. Now, we’ve gone full circle back as a head coach."

Stratford joined Hereford United in July 2010.' This from BN at the time:

'The much travelled 25 year old has already playing in the US and Scotland after graduating from Fulham's Academy and playing in their reserves without making an appearance in the first team.

'He moved to the States in 2004, playing as a right winger for West Virginia University then Cape Cod Crusaders before having a short spell with MLS side DC United.

'He spent last season at Inverness, alongside former Bulls keeper Ryan Esson, playing 12 times as they won promotion back to the SPL.'

Two Academy Teams To Play At Edgar Street This Weekend

Tomorrow morning the U16's will play Gloucester City. Kick-off is at 11am.

And on Sunday another U16 side will meet Bartestree U17's in an HFA Cup tie.

Supporters are welcome to watch the games. A donation to the Academy would be appreciated.

Hereford 5/2 To Defeat Alfreton

Owen Evans Scored Hereford's Goal In A 1-1 Draw At Alfreton Last Season
The bookmakers are offering odds of around 5/2 for a Hereford win at Alfreton tomorrow.

Last Tuesday Alfreton defeated Gloucester 6-1 whereas in their last game, Josh Gowling's first one as interim manager, Hereford drew 1-1 with Curzon Ashton.

Alfreton have gained eight points from their last five games, Hereford have gained just five points.

Match preview - Alfreton Town vs Hereford FC

Part two of Josh Gowling’s admirable total football experiment finds itself popping up at the Impact Arena Stadium in Alfreton this Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Looking at things optimistically, Hereford FC are on a two-game unbeaten run. Looking at things realistically, Hereford FC failed to beat doomed Bradford PA and perennial strugglers Curzon Ashton at home. There’s not really much point reiterating that this sort of form is really depressing, so, um…it was interesting to see Curzon Ashton fielding 11 players and subs all called ‘Village’ last Saturday – surely a record. I’d have thought that the Greater Manchester gene pool was deeper.

However, and it’s a big however I think: the interim-and-possibly-future boss seems to have inherited a squad of players willing to put a shift in for him, responding positively to his desire to play ‘the right way’, even though their confidence must be at rock bottom. It looks like Kieran Thomas will come back into the reckoning for this one following injury, giving the back four a bit of protection and keeping the opposition midfielders honest. Reece Styche faces one of his former clubs (as indeed does Gowling), and for that reason, and because he looked up for it when he came on as a sub last time, he probably deserves a start.

Alfreton beat Gloucester 6-1 in midweek, with Danny Elliott, making his debut on loan from Chester, scoring a hat-trick. However, a wise man told me recently that he who finisheth below Gloucester goeth down this season, and I believe him (although he doesn’t actually speak like that because if he did he would sound utterly preposterous unless he was dressed all like a druid or something, which he isn’t/doesn’t). So, that result can safely be disregarded as an outlier because Gloucester are in utter freefall. Luckily for us.

Before that outlier, the Reds had won just one of their last five matches, and were clearly scratching around trying to find some form. Prior to murdering Gloucester in Shakespearean fashion, January has so far seen Alfreton draw at home to lowly Telford and lose comfortably away at Darlington. They did however beat Curzon Ashton, which is, generally speaking, a given.

They’ve lost as many as they’ve won at home so far this season, and last season had the worst home record outside the bottom three. Amari Morgan-Smith, with 15 goals (including one in the midweek rout), is undoubtedly their danger man.

Anyone who saw the match between these two at Edgar Street earlier in the season will be well aware of how limited Saturday’s hosts are (we’ll gloss over the fact that they actually won the match). So, if there is any sort of ‘honeymoon period’ developing following Josh Gowling’s promotion, and the players are feeling rejuvenated as a result, this one’s there for the taking. Having said that, a 1-1 draw at home to Curzon Ashton is like honeymooning in Redditch, in winter, during a power cut, so the jury’s very much still out on the whole honeymoon thing for the moment.

So, that’s the actual match covered, I think we’ll win because we’re brilliant yada yada, but here’s a thought: a clutch of northern teams, unusually, are struggling in the division above. If, say, three go down, and Gloucester also drop out of the NLN, would that result in Hereford moving across to the NLS next season if they manage to avoid relegation themselves? If so, and if the board and whichever management team is appointed can recruit smartly in the summer, the quest for the play-offs in the southern section would be an easier task than would be the case with a third season in the northern section. A non-league-pyramid boffin will no doubt dismantle this theory in seconds because of reasons x, y and z, but it struck me as feasible, although I’m as thick as mince.

If it is feasible, it’s therefore crucial that the Bulls break this ‘draw disappointingly at home, get thumped away’ pattern, and get to safety asap. It’s worth repeating that the club have won just one match in four months. As stats go, they don’t get much starker than that.

The tiniest of green shoots of recovery were in evidence last Saturday, despite it being another really bad result, and a win this weekend would fertilise those shoots very nicely indeed.

And! Stop press! The club’s doing some PR, and whaddaya know? The chairman wants the same sort of thing as everyone else, and he’s as frustrated as everyone else. A little bit of communication goes an awfully long way. It’s high time that the few fans currently keeping the faith at this fans-first club were given some attention. Well done Mr Chairman.

This is a great opportunity for everyone from the chairman, through to the board, through to a really promising looking interim management team (who it seems will be given a fair crack at getting the playing side back on an even keel, and if they do could maybe get the job for next season, here's hoping) through to us plebs who pay the bills, to all join together and make Edgar Street a happy and happily noisy place again.

More power to his elbow.

We have to win this one though.

West Ham In Race To Sign Jarrod Bowen

West Ham are the latest club reported to be interested in signing Jarrod Bowen, the former Hereford United player.

Earlier today it was reported that Crystal Palace had made an offer of £16M for the Hull star.

But it looks as though that deal may be on hold at least until West Ham decide whether to top Palace's offer.

Bowen could earn around £60K per week with either club according to the Guardian.

Thomas May Feature On Saturday

Keiran Thomas may be fit enought to play some part in Saturday's fixture at Alfreton according to interim manager Josh Gowling.

"Keiran has come back to training and has done well, so he could well feature on the weekend," said Gowling in an interiew on the Hereford OS.

"We’ve got a few little niggles in the camp so we’re just keeping our eye on that. Brandon, for example, could feature, but with Will Henry here there’s no rush to bring someone back too quickly.

"We’ve got a small squad at the moment, but it’s a squad that has the right attitude and a squad that I’m confident can pick up results."

Alfreton Hat-Trick For On-Loan Elliott

Danny Elliott started his loan spell at Alfreton with a hat-trick in last Tuesday's game against Gloucester City which ended 6-1.

Elliott, who is on loan from Chester for an initial month, took just twelve minutes to open his account with further goals coming after 26 and 63 minutes.

However Chester lost 2-0 to Gateshead on Tuesday and afterwards joint-manager Anthony Johhnson half-hinted that Johnson might be recalled.

"Danny Elliott has scored a brilliant hat-trick.

"That is what he has gone out on loan for, to do that and get a run of games.

"It's just bit us on the backside as he has gone out and done that and we've looked so toothless up front."

Hereford travel to Alfreton on Saturday.

I Tried To Sign Nicholson In The Summer Said Buxton Manager

As reported yesterday Hereford's Jordan Nicholson has moved to Buxton on an initial one month loan deal.

Gary Hayward, Buxton manager, has welcomed the move of the midfielder.

"We need to put some more goals into the side and hopefully Jordan will be that man to do it for us," said Hayward as reported by the Buxton Advertiser.

"He is a very attacking-minded player.

"I tried to sign him in the summer when I was at Hednesford and we've always kept in touch since then.

"He hasn't really enjoyed it at Hereford and when I found out there was a chance to take him we jumped at the chance.

"He's a very good player and I want to keep him until the end of the season."

Hereford Chairman Answers Supporters Questions

In an interview with 'The Beachster' recorded after Saturday's draw with Curzon Ashton, Hereford FC chairman Andrew Graham replied to questions about managers, finance, and other matters.

Below is a flavour of his answers.

"The manager we require at Hereford has to be able to understand this level of football, has to be able to recruit at this level, and has to be able bond the team together.

"We are part-time, we are not a full-time squad, it's important they gel as a team.

"As far as (going full-time) it will be when the budget enables us to go full-time.

"We've seen some terrible form last 15/18 months, if truth be told, that has had an impact on the gates. Gate revenue then has an impact on the budget.

"We need to ensure we are in a safe place to set a budget for full-time. Are we at that point at the moment? Not with the current level of gates but hopefully that will turn around."

How much of an influence do the original benefactors have in the boardroom, if any?

"They don't. We listened to the original benefactors, we listened to their opinions and thoughts, they are successful business people, but no more than we listened to the thoughts and opinions of HUST, other shareholders and our fans as well."

Asked about Saturday's game, Graham thought the team had 'played a different type of football'.

"We looked a little bit sharper, we looked as though we really, really wanted it. So I'm sure the football philosophy will change with the coaching staff that have changed. "

The chairman wouldn't comment on whether former manager Russell Slade's business committments impacted on the football side of his job.

Then a question asking if the board took any responsibilty for how bad this season has been and why wasn't Marc Richards sacked earlier?

"100%. We parted company with Mark Richards because we didn't feel it was heading in the way we wanted it to head.

"When we looked at the end of the season (to sack Richards) it wasn't a decision the board wanted to take at that time."

Why were Richards and Harris allowed to give out so many contracts to players?

"Therein lies a bit of an issue because if you look at the fact that a lot of our players are on long-term contracts, they've all got ability to play at this level but did we have a lot of people on contract who didn't gel as a unit, the answer has been clear to see for 15 months.

"Very disappointing that they (Harris and Richards) had that much freedom when it was a budget that was given to them, I'm very disappointed that we found ourselves in that position so, yes, I think there should have been a lot more control over that."

A question about the Blackfriars End.

"It's definitely going to happen. I had a very lengthy meeting with the Council this week. In respect of when it happens, who knows, but what I can say is the Council are on top of local planning and there's a lot to be done but, yes, it will happen."

Another question about a manager.

"We've got to get the right person for Hereford. We are not the same as every other club.

"I know what models some clubs have and I look at some managers that some clubs have but we've seen both at Hereford, and at other clubs much much bigger than ours, that it isn't always about the name. Sometimes it's about an individual who comes in and makes that difference in the changing room to get players who believe in themselves.

"Josh has stepped up as interim manager, Steve Burr as his assistant, fantastic acquisition for Hereford.

"I think that this management team might do something and if they do I don't think we will be in a rush to oust them for something different."

Nicholson joins Buxton on loan

Jordan Nicholson has joined Northern Premier League side, Buxton on a one month loan deal.

The attacking midfielder started the season in fine form and has made 20 appearances so far during this campaign.

But an injury sustained at the end of December has seen him out of the side.

Update: Buxton says that it's an 'initial 28 day loan'.

Nicholson was expected to play some part in this evening's fixture between Buxton and Warrington. However the pitch is covered with snow so the game has been called off.

Flowers Leaves Solihull

Tim Flowers has left Solihull Moors after a poor run of form.

“Tim has made an invaluable contribution to the development of Moors and his legacy will be enshrined in Moors history forever," said chairman Darryl Earls.

“He has been an absolute pleasure to work with and he has done a magnificent job for the club. Our progress under his stewardship has been fantastic and he leaves a great foundation for future success."

Report: Lye Town 0 Hereford 8

Last night Hereford FC under 18's travelled to Lye Town for a Midland Youth Floodlit Cup tie.

Hereford started strongly, causing Lye’s back three problems, with Morgan, Hilton, Yalland and Muirhead combining to create some early opportunities. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Hilton worked hard to keep the ball in play, before chipping a cross into the back post allowing Raison to head home. Hereford doubled their lead 2 minutes later, an in-swinging Corten corner was finished by Muirhead. Hereford then kicked into gear and began to dominate possession, creating several opportunities to score before a parried Hopkins drive fell to Hilton who’s finish gave him the goal his excellent hold up play deserved. In the 43rd minute Hereford added their fourth goal, another excellent Corten corner was this time headed in by Yalland. A dominant first half from the young Bulls only resulted in Hooper having to make a couple of saves, with Lye’s only real chance of the half coming from a corner which Corten cleared off the line.

Guinane and Payne both came on for the second half, with Hereford continuing to dominate possession and create chances. U16 player Summers was introduced and immediately became a threat, with himself and Guinane wreaking havoc in wide areas. Despite their dominance it took until the 81st minute for the Bulls to add their 5th. After a lung busting run from Hopkins, his pass found Guinane who crossed for Summers, who’s quick feet saw him beat his man and left the keeper unable to move. 2 minutes later the Bulls added their 6th, Summers sent clean through on the left hand side before sliding the ball past the onrushing Goalkeeper. Just 6 minutes later, Pemberton pass set Summers through again, who cut back round his defender before sliding the ball in to complete his 9 minute hattrick. With the last kick of the game Guinane rolled his man, powering past the onrushing defenders to finish into the top corner and complete an 8-0 victory for the Bulls.

A very dominant performance in both boxes for the Bulls, reducing the opposition to very few opportunities and creating plenty of their own. A short turnaround now before their next game, away v Stourbridge on Wednesday night, where the Bulls are hoping to replicate their League Cup performance.

Goalscorers: Raison, Muirhead, Hilton, Yalland, Summers (x3), Guinane.
